Host Families

Our international students truly appreciate having a Canadian host family. For our host families, we pray and hope that through this experience they adopt a new son or daughter. Together we hope that our students get a taste of Canadian culture and that our host families get a taste of an international culture. This is an experience that our school and our students have grown from and will forever cherish and we hope the same for each of  the MCI’s host families.

The Host Family Program:
Each year we look for new host families for international students. Host families are essential to the international program here at MCI as families provide a home-away-from-home for students on closed residence weekends and holidays. Closed residence weekends occur usually once a month.

If you  and your family are curious about other countries, this is a fun way to bring some international culture to your home. If you have traveled, loved it and wish to go again, this is a great way to bring just a small part of another country to you. If you’ve ever been away from home, felt lonely and maybe scared, you already know how some of our students feel being in Canada. This is a great opportunity to show them what you love and be a part of their life. Or for those who simply have the gift of hospitality, this is a great opportunity to use it!

A glimpse into what it looks like:
First Semester: 4 Closed Res Weekends + Christmas break
Second Semester: 5 Closed Res Weekends + Spring Break
We understand that not all families have the time to commit to being a full time host. We hope that we are able to provide some options that will allow those families to participate in the program still.
Here are four options:

  • Full Time Host Family:  This includes hosting a student for both semesters and may include Christmas break and Spring break (holidays).
  • Part Time Host Family:  This would involve possibly one semester or half the time. For example, if we have two families who are willing to host one student together, they could choose to do a semester each or to alternate throughout the year.
  • Holiday Host Family:  Some of our international students head home for Christmas break but for those that cannot, and do not have visas to travel with their host families on a vacation we need families willing to host just for the holidays.
  • Back-up Host Family:  At times our regular host families have family emergencies of their own, or family vacations and it is always reassuring to know that there is a back-up plan for a student in this situation.

All these roles are very important and needed in order to make our host family program work.
