Blues fall the Sabres In their first game of 2009, the MCI Blues lost 75-54 to the Sanford Sabres. After a 40-point loss in their first meeting with the "AAA" powerhouse, MCI's performance on Thursday night was a marked improvement. Their struggled offensively to start the game, scoring only 14 points in the first half. "We couldn't buy a basket in the beginning. We were running decent options and getting good looks, but our shots weren't falling," said Assistant Coach Jeremy Siemens. The Blues found their shot in the second half, as they matched their first half production in the first five minutes of the third quarter. The offensive improvement swung the momentum in the MCI's favour as they went on a 24-14 run that saw them pull within 13 points of Sanford. In the end, Sanford proved to be too much for the Blues, as the home team Sabres' starters pushed the game out of reach. Ethan Rempel finished with 16 points to lead MCI, while David Warkentin led the way in the second half, scoring all of his 15 points after halftime.
